Raw Silk Caps/Bells 17.5 oz.
Silk caps/bells are made from cultivated cocoons degummed and stretched over a wood board shaped like a bell. They consist of a number of extremely thin layers. A cap "bell" is roughly two dozen caps, weighing a generous 17.5 plus ounces per cap. The height of the cap 17" and width of lower edge 13". These are then fastened together at their tops and covered by one large cap whose edges are drawn out and tied together at the bottom to make a neat bundle. My silk caps are very white and clean with a beautiful luster. It can produce a very fine and strong yarn, can be used for spinning, knitting, weaving, and also paper making. Some folks spin directly from the cap itself, some prefer to separate the layers (hankies) one at a time and make roving from each individual piece and then spin that.
